For video recording there are so many options - cell phones, compact cameras, High quality DSLRs but Camcorders come victorious in video recording. Camcorders are becoming compact these days but they may have issues of hand-shake more visible on taken videos. Decide if you want high definition or standard camcorder. The optical zoom for standard definition are more than that of Hi-Def ones. Camcorder that use mini-DV are in low prices but the DVD based models are convenient for users who just want to play back them using standard DVD players. If you are a geek and wants to transfer all the video-footage to a computer then go for hard drive or flash memory based camcorders.

For better sound experience it has become common practice to add receivers and speakers (Hometheater) to many out put sources like TV , Cable set-top boxes or DVD players. Why do people add-on buy audio systems ? The in-built speakers that come with the video devices are mediocre. Hometheater systems gives multichannel surround sound giving a theater experience.
First to decide if you want 5.1 or a 7.1 surround sound ? Dolby Digital 5.1 channel surround sound consists of two front (movie's sound) and two rear channels (crowd noise and special effects), a center channel(movie dialogs), and a subwoofer (for lowest tones bass instruments or explosions). The 6.1 or 7.1-channel formats include the additional rear speakers.
5.1-channel surround sound is just what we need to get theater-like experience at home. The extra rear-center speaker in a 6.1-channel gives quality sound experience in larger rooms with some addition sound experience. Very less movies are encoded in 6.1-channel sound, and 7.1-channel channels.
Higher priced ones support High Definition sound quality.
