Why India cannot make it to super eights ?
Sachin-Chappell faisco made Sachin come out open and talk to media which resulted in notices from BCCI.In a rare public outburst,
Tendulkar, expressed his anguish, saying ''Paani sar se ooncha ho gaya hai (Things have gone a bit too far to keep quiet). I've given my heart and my soul for 17 years. No coach had mentioned even in passing that my attitude was not correct.'' The news spread like wild fire and did not too long to reach the shores of the Caribbean.Tendulkar's reasons -
- Tendulkar took head bath (Paani sar se ooncha ho gaya hai ) on match days with Bangladesh and Srilanka.Short Tendlya drowned himself in water with head bath which made him bloat and with puffed stomach he cannot be at crease for longer time on two crucial games.17 years and this is first time it happened to him.Sorry blaster not every one knows the reasons as you often don't speak to media.
- Tendulkar should have taken this (Chappel's) in dressing room.Oh Sidhu Tendlya was in a hurry and was not able to wash his head and cure the bloat as Sehwag, Uthappa had similar diarrhea problems that made them run back to pavillion in Bangla match.
- There has never been a doubt on his integrity, his credibility. He never gets into trouble with head bath or diarrhea. There won't be a single day when Sachin Tendulkar's hair has changed.
- I am actually happy to see Tendulkar come out with that head bath and speak as well.
Kumble took the same road but different in that he went with mild attacks against Chappell.Kumble says Chappel style created insecurity among the players.Cahppel is saying players are Mafia and Kumble says players are insecured.Oh..This is the root cause of India's early exit from world cup.Damn, one billion people finding reasons of India failure will now know the reason.Mafia did not get proper supari."He said there has been a lot of speculation and the focus on the Indian cricket team per se has increased now with more television channels than two years ago when John Wright was the coach."One more reason too many television channels.BAN CHANNELS BCCI.
To sum up - Kumble says India lost out from world cup because -
- Chappel style created insecurity among the players
- Focus on the Indian cricket team per se has increased now with more television channels than two years ago
- Ian Chappell knows nothing about Indian cricket
- We tend to give too much importance to players from outside. Like when we say that we don't have a (Shane) Warne, (Muttiah) Muralitharan or (Wasim) Akram in the team, we forget that these guys are not the ones who will win us matches. We need to support our players for that.We do not have world class players.
- Rubbished suggestions that Tendulkar's age had made him more of a liability for the team in term of fitness.SO Tendulkar's age is the reason.

Super Eights standings as of today
Remember that Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and West Indies all carried over two points from group matches.
Chances are highly likely that New Zealand and West Indies will slide the charts making Australia, SouthAfrica and Srilanka to top in the order.
My favorites are South Africa this year but looks like the way they played with Sri Lanka specially in Malinga's bowling I have doubts if they can go to finals.
Here are reminder of some rules and as in 1992 hope SA didn't get beating from any of rain rules.
Some Rules:
Each team will be given two points for every win, with one for a tie or a no-result.
If more than one team ties on points for fourth-placed, the following tie-break rules apply
TIEBREAKERS
- Team with the most wins
- Team with best net run-rate
- Team with most wickets taken per balls bowled
- Winner of the game between two level teams
- Draw of lots
The team with the most wins goes through, but net run-rate -- including all matches played in the competition -- is the next and most likely factor to split the sides.
In the unlikely event that there are identical net run rates, the team with the most wickets taken per balls bowled would win through.
Semi-finals
The team that finishes first in the Super Eight stage will play the team which finished fourth. Second will play third.
The weather
- There is a reserve day for every match at the World Cup. Every effort will be made to complete the match on the scheduled day with any necessary reduction in overs taking place.
- Only if the minimum number of overs (20 per side) cannot be bowled on the scheduled day will the match be completed on the reserve day. Any incomplete matches will be continued the next day from where they left off - a new game will not be started.

Super Eight - who will be the winners?
Cricket Riff Raffers (Mainly Nareshi and Ravi) put together nice spread sheets to track the matches as we go into semi finals and finals.
Here are my guesses,I guessed based on my analysis and Rediff's MVP picks MVP day 12.
My world cup winners guess is South Africa.
I'll update this regularly to reflect day to day results with analysis.
I got some table fromatting issue and I'll post table as soon as I can
For today's match -

Heroes or Zeroes - India vs. Srilanka
Lets first talk about how we made Sri Lanka zeros to Heroes and how we made our self heroes to zeros.
1979: Sri Lanka v India
India lost to Sri Lanka by 47 runs
Old Trafford, 16-18 June 1979
Sri Lanka: 238/5 (60 overs, S Wettimuny 67, D Mendis 64, R Dias 50, M Amarnath 3/40)
India: 191 (54.1 overs, D Vengsarkar 36, DS de Silva 3/29, ARM Opatha 3/31)
Sri Lanka gained Test status not long after this tournament, playing their maiden Test against England in 1982. 24 years later, they were to lose to an associate in the World Cup, but we'll get to that later.
Over the past 24 years, Sri Lanka has become a strong force in the big league and has produced several world-class cricketers.
By 1985, Sri Lanka had recorded its first Test win, against India. Although the victory was marred by murmurs of poor umpiring, with the Indian captain Kapil Dev proclaiming that Sri Lanka will never win a Test away from home, a victory against Pakistan the next year followed by a historic triumph in the Asia Cup with neutral umpires officiating the games silenced the critics.
Australia was the first country to host Sri Lanka in a three-match Test series in 1995 and in the same series Muttiah Muralitharan, was called for throwing seven times by Australian umpire Darrell Hair which stirred a bigger controversy in cricket world.
1996 World Cup - India vs Sri Lanka Semi Final - India had started well and was at 98 for 1 when tragedy struck. Tendulkar was batting on 65 when he danced down the track to one ball too many and the crumbling pitch ensured that he missed it. He was stumped and this triggered a collapse that saw India lose 7 wickets for 21 runs.Azhar had to cop a lot of the blame for his decision to bowl first, but he defended his strategy. A shameful day in the history of Indian cricket and one that rankles the memory to this day.
As of writing this India already won the toss and Dravid decided to bowl first.
Hope that Sri lanka does not repeat this to India in today's match as it did in 1996 world cup.
