Sehwag is the star of first match with blazing triple century knock. He missed the great opportunity of beating Lara's record, he should have been bit patient as it is difficult to amass such runs again. Its great accomplishment for a player who is struggling for form and the man made it to record books with quick 300 off 270 balls. First test that ended in draw demonstrated what a batting pitch scores look like. Dravid joined the premier 10,000 runs club and the 25th test hundred. Bowlers on two sides struggled to contain both runs and wickets.
Second test match preview
The middle order - Tendulkar, Ganguly & VVS Laxman failing will add trouble in 2nd test match at Ahmedabad. Bajji's five wicket haul is impressive and if he gets support from other bowlers India can be a better bowling side. The worrying factor for India is injured Tendulkar who is going to miss the second test. Kaif will be replacing Tendulkar after almost two years. Kaif who had been performing well in domestic matches is a right selection both in fielding and batting departments. Historically we have seen Sehwag cool down after a big knock like the one at first test match and this is advantageous to RSA.

Why year 2008 stagflation-recession is compared to late 1960s and early 1970s ?
What is stagflation ?
The concurrence of a rising inflation rate and stagnant economic growth.
What are Stagflation causes in late 1960s and early 1970s ?
Consumer Price Index (% change from previous year) rose from 2% to above 6% from January’ 66 to January’ 70 indicating Inflationary pressures were starting to build after year 1965. Increased government expenditures for the Vietnam War and social programs with strong private demand pushed the economy beyond its capacity to produce. Wages began to accelerate resulting in compensation per hour grew by 6.6% per year. Real unit labor cost rose by 0.8% per year thus reducing overall corporate profit margins. This led to most severe recession since the Depression with inflation peaking at 18 percent in 1974 and unemployment peaking a year later at nearly 10 percent. 1970s was the beginning of the persistent and large US trade deficits. Taxes were up, buying power was down. As real wages fell, so too did confidence in the Fed. The Fed in 1970s is unable to produce a set of policies to help lift the economy out of the economic doldrums. The Fed tried to address the stagflation by raising fed funds rate from 6% to 9%. Recession occurred in 1973. The Fed, tried to utilize traditional expansionary fiscal policy to get the economy moving out of the 1973-75 recession with the Tax Reduction Act of 1975, but it was not enough to restore confidence.
Why was it so difficult a problem to deal with in 1970s (Why did policy makers fail to deal with it)?
The 1970’s stagflation (the concurrence of a rising inflation rate and stagnant economic growth) problem could not be treated with traditional aggregate demand (AD) oriented monetary and fiscal policies. An increase in aggregate demand - an outward shift in the AD curve - would move the intersection of the AS and AD lines up and to the right. Expansionary fiscal and / or monetary polices could offset the decline in output, but not without causing higher prices. Similarly, contraction polices designed to control inflation - an inward shift in the AD curve - would succeed at lowering prices, but only at the expense of even large declines in output and employment. The traditional policies in 1970s offered government policy makers (Fed) little guidance in dealing with the nation's economic problems.
Using the aggregate demand/supply analysis, how did the Federal Reserve eventually solve the problem in 1980s?
In 1980s under the presidency of Ronald Regan the challenges were to reduce double-digit rates of inflation and to reduce the role of government involvement. Also by 1980 nearly one-third of all the gains in earnings made since 1948 had disappeared affecting the savings of all households. Most important of all is to regain the confidence of pubic on U.S. economic policies set by Fed. The Federal Reserve took a different approach to the problem by concentrating on the economy that has been hit by an adverse supply shock; the Fed in 1980s responded with appropriate policy that triggered a compensating supply shift and focused attention on aggregate supply.
First - monetary policy (restrict money supply) to control inflation. Second, government interferences with the economy is reduced - reducing government spending. Third, productivity growth needed is increased. As a result, inflation did drop drastically - from a high of 18 percent in early 1980 to 0 percent in March, 1982 - the first time that this had happened in a decade. The cost, at least initially, was higher unemployment, but eventually the unemployment rate began to fall and by 1989 it was 5.3 percent, the lowest rate since 1973 before the OPEC induced recession.
What lessons can the Fed learn from this experience?
The costs of even moderate high one-digit inflation were high. Only after the experiences of the 1970s were economic policy makers realized the flaws in trying to use stimulative macroeconomic policies to push the unemployment rate down below percent, and to hold it there.
Does this experience have any application to the current 2008 economic situation in the U.S.?
The 1970s was a decade of stagflation -- the concurrence of a rising inflation rate and stagnant economic growth. The U.S. economy has not now reached the double-digit inflation rate (almost 15% by 1981), or the 9% unemployment rate, experienced back then. Inflation of 1970s is blamed because the Fed pumped money into the system too aggressively and Fed is not doing the same mistake in 2008.The Fed (Alan Greenspan’s Fed team) took too long to reverse the low fed fund rates of 2001-2003, thereby fueling the housing bubble whose collapse now threatens the economy. I believe a concentrated correction in housing sector will reduce damage spreading to other parts of economy.The Fed lowering the interest rates and Bush’s economic stimulus package will likely bring back the consumer confidence and growth in GDP, and biggest problem for Fed is to act cautiously during an election year, as it will face intense political pressure not to raise interest rates.

1st Final India vs Australia live online at Sydney Commonwealth Bank Series
1st final starts in -
India is better team than Sri Lanka in this series but not when compared with Australia. India just won one game against Australia in CB series i.e. 4th Match at Melbourne played on Feb 10, 2008 by 5 wickets. This makes Australia the defacto favorites in the 1st final game that will be played on March 2' 2008 at Sydney. Australia has its own share of batting form problems and only in last match Ponting made a revengeful century probably after he was sold for embrassing $400K in IPL. All other batsman including Gilchrist and Symmonds are out of form and not contributing to the scoreboard. Aussies bowling attack has been marvelous which saved them from all the matches in CB series.
India on the other hand is totally unpredictable both on batting and bowling. Ishanth Sharma was the only consistent bowler who fared well against both Aussies and Sri Lankans in the series. No wonder he was sold double the price of Ponting in IPL. Tendulkar regained his aggressive batting in last match with Sri Lanka. Gambhir is for batting as Ishant is for bowling. He already got couple of centuries in this series and he applies himself to the game with dedication which is missing from the rest of the players. Rohit sharma and Uthappa has to prove themselves to be on Indian squad in upcoming two finals.
If India can bowl well and at least two or three batsman makes some what average score then 1st final winner will be India.

Australia v Sri Lanka at Melbourne 9th Match Commonwealth Bank Series - watching online & info
As India wins the 8th game against Sri Lanka in a two wicket thriller , that makes this next game between Australia and Sri Lanka interesting.
If SriLanka looses the match then India will have some what bright chances of going into the finals.
Advantage for India is that Yuvaraj Singh and Dhoni are in excellent form now and if they get littl;e support from top order and then there is no reason of why India cannot make it to CB series final.

E-Trade Superbowl 2008 baby ads -- Quite entertaining with brand rebuilding
I have TD Ameritrade brokerage account for stocks and have no idea how E-Trade is compared (with transaction commissions or research tools) to TD Ameritrade. Last time I went in and punched E-Trade stock symbol for stock price check was when it was in bankruptcy news. Rumor was started by Citi Investment Research analyst Prashant Bhatia who published that E-Trade “Bankruptcy risk cannot be ruled out.”
I think E-Trade did respond back very strongly with their Superbowl ads to build the brand image again. They chose babies ad theme sending in clear message that it easy to work with online E-Trade account.
I some how feel their stock will go up for few days with this effect and is a good bet for day traders.

Remember salesgenie.com ? Two clues First Telemarketing and Second un forgetful 2007 superbowl ads.
I recently moved to AT&T service after Sunrocket's VOIP phone service went out of business. The phone number that we got from AT&t is a recycled number (used by some one previously and phone companies since running out of numbers gives the same number to new customers). The recycled number seems to be of some one by name "Pamela" and we ended up receiving all her telemarketing and personal calls. AT&T cannot help us in this case and they asked us to get the new number and they do not guarantee if that is not a recycled one.
All other options I followed like putting the number in "DONOTCALL" list and unlisting the number from AT&T but none seems to work out. In the process of my research I found salesgenie which sells this kind of information to sales people and Salesgenie claims that it is up to buyers of these leads to verify in DONOTCALL list. If you are still getting telemarketing calls after listing in DOnOtCall list then SalesGenie might be the reason.
Salesgenie got so famous last year for featuring a 30-second Superbowl ad which the blogs and media declared the ad as most boring and un professional. This made them so popular last year.

The Indian cricket board has withdrawn the threat to pull out of the ongoing Australian tour if a ban on Harbhajan Singh was not overturned by the International Cricket Council.
"There is no question of the tour being called off," board spokesman Rajiv Shukla quoted president Sharad Pawar as saying on Saturday.
"He (Pawar) said the two boards intend to maintain good relations as there is no problem with the two," Shukla said.
