Srilanka paid price for not playing Vaas and Murali

Send me email updates:

The match between Sl and AUS is just a formality match as this does not change outcome of teams going into semis.

After a couple of big wickets Jayawardene and Silva settle down and provided the needed good partnership.Silva is such a SL promising player averaging 50 plus in this world cup, He already has three fifties with another fifty added in this game.If Silva keeps his form he may one day might become SL captain. Anything above 250 is a realistic score for Australia to chase.Even McGrath giving loose runs could not help SL to score near 250.

At one point the ball stopped swinging and the SL decision to bat first looked right, SL just needed 2 or 3 big partnerships that would have helped them.Good comeback looked like by SL.Experienced players are there to pull team out of crisis and this is what Jaya and Silva tried their best today.

Looked like by dropping Vaas and Murali besides injured Malinga,Did SL plan to loose this game to be in second or third place to play with new zealand ? if they had won this they would have played semis against SA (considering SA makes it to semis beating Eng) OR SL wanted to show that they lost to AUS only because they don't have their main bowlers.

Even having Vaas and Murali would be a struggle to defend 226. The SL batting is not up to the mark in this WC and their main strength is bowling spell of Vaas and Murali.

Aus is racing towards WC final to get Hat Trick (of three world cups in a row).

The only other good game left in super eights is ENG Vs RSA.
